Moorcroft

Moorcroft is a name that is associated with quality, innovation and success.  William Moorcroft worked under the auspices of the James Macintyre Company from 1897 until opening his own pottery in 1913.  The 12” vase pictured here is in the Pomegranate design on a blue ground.  This pattern was introduced in 1910 and with it Moorcroft’s style became bolder plus he introduced the use of dark and mottled grounds. Upon examining the markings on the base, along with William Moorcroft’s signature, the vase can be dated between the years of 1918 and 1929.  As in all considerations, there was a small blemish in one area which unfortunately affected the overall value.

Nelson Greenlaw's Story:

Greenlaw - Grand Maynan Ferry

Nelson Greenlaw -

Grand Maynan Ferry (the ELK,) and the Campabello Island Light, the Swallow Tail

Back in the early 60's Nelson R Greenlaw was just another drifter living on Grand Manan Island in the bay of Fundy who enjoyed a jar. Until one night on the very road in the painting on the left, he fell backwards into a snow drift and fell asleep! The perils of the night took hold as did Jack Frost which resulted in Nelson Greenlaw loosing all of his digits on both hands but for one thumb

From that day forward, Nelson had to learn to do everything again, just using thumb and palm.

Nelson took to painting to supplement the need to eat and of course, his penchant for a draft and a song.

Frankly, his paintings are a delight, and Nelsons mastery of dexterity in this dreadful handicap both a delight to see and a lesson to us all.

Watch this man become a legend amongst Canada's Eastern Seaboard Folk Artists as his paintings emerge.

*DO YOU HAVE ANY OF HIS PAINTINGS>

Tiffany

What a find! This is a 9” Tiffany Bronze Dore plate, well marked with the Tiffany Company name and numbered 1707.  Dore refers to the acid speckling of gold and this bronze style is known as statuary bronze dore as it is darker than the gold.  It was purchased as part of a box lot at auction and was only discovered when the box was emptied at home.  The value is definitely more than the cost of the lot!

Louis Comfort Tiffany and his father, Charles Lewis Tiffany are icons in the jewelry and silver world.  By 1870, Tiffany and Company were recognized as premier jewelers and “the” shop for luxury table, personal and household accessories.  This was a far cry from Tiffany, Young & Ellis the stationery and fancy goods store opened in 1837.   In 1902, after the death of his father, Louis Comfort Tiffany became the firm’s first Director of Design.  He was a world leader in both the Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts movements.  The company is known for quality and fine workmanship and items that bear the name Tiffany Studios are highly esteemed

The South Polar Times

Detailing the National Antarctic Expedtion, April 1902

The South Polar Times was an 'in-house magazine', produced over the winters of 1902-3, when the ship Discovery was ice-bound in McMurdo Sound. The 1901-1904 expedition was led by Robert Scott and the South Polar Times was edited by Ernest Shackleton.

The objective of the expedition was for 'scientific discovery

and exploration.' Its main achievement was a new

'farthest south' record - 480 miles from the South Pole.

Russian Icon

Believed to hail from 300 years back, the Russian Hallmark of just 1890 tends to vanquish the legend  behind this lovely hand worked icon..

Canadian tour art and antiques appraisal event tour dates & details for Spring  2011

The British Artiques roadshow kicks off its ever popular Canadian appraisals roadshow tour this May on the east coast of Canada with antiques and art appraisal roadshows being held in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

With well over a decade of antiques roadshow style appraisal events across Canada behind us, the British Artiques roadshow and its expert appraisers were pleased to be asked back to the eastern seaboard of Canada and New Brunswick in particular and we look forward to a great roadshow of antiques appraisals hosted by Brunswick Square Shopping Centre for the St John and New Brunswick community this May.

Canadian communities have turned out to the British roadshow events in their thousands for antiques, art and collectibles appraisals at packed roadshow events across the Dominion. In fact ever since the first ever British roadshow event was hosted twelve years ago in Ontario, we have been packed. Roadshow antiques and art appraisal events are always sold out early here in Canada with eager people keen to find out whether Great grannies heirloom is just trash or treasure. We are sure that the Brunswick Square antique appraisal roadshow event will be just as successful.

Frankly, its nearly always a treasure of one kind or another that the roadshow appraiser sees and with nearly $60 Million dollars worth of roadshow antiques and collectibles showing up already, the British artiques roadshow is looking forward to coming back to New Brunswick to unravel some more myths and legends, appraise and value your family heirlooms and hopefully help and advise you professionally, pleasingly without bias or prejudice.

With the information already leaked to the press that the artiques roadshow was coming to Brunswick Square Shopping centre this spring, we're told that the phone has not stopped ringing at Brunswick Square and only a few places are left for booking your antiques appraisal.

Incredibly, even this early on, some 3 months away from the New Brunswick Roadshow, it's nearly SOLD OUT.

* Interested parties should clearly recognise that we have no affiliation or connection to the BBC television series and that all appraisals are private and confidential matters and will not be filmed by us. However, it is quite normal that the event is likely to attract local media attention, such as journalists and news crews. Under those conditions alone, your permission may be sought for interview which you are perfectly at liberty to decline.

ABOUT OUR SAINT JOHN ROADSHOW & OUR ART & ANTIQUES EXPERT APPRAISERS:

Maureen Wickham is Canada's very own Doyen of the Antiques World. A Canadian expert and personal property appraiser of great personal experience, breadth and knowledge, she is widely internationally travelled. Maureen has an equal number of years and experience in the antiques world to share with her clients. She lectures and broadcasts on her subject and has appeared many times on Canadian television, with regular Breakfast TV appearances across the Nation. Maureen is the Roadshow's expert antiques and collectibles appraiser and a full CPPAG member.

Since joining the British Artiques roadshow back in 2006, fighting off stiff competition from over 100 highly qualified expert candidates who applied for the position, Maureen has advised and offered opinions to members of the general Canadian public in over twenty North American cities.

Her expert antiques appraisals, valuations and invaluable advise have been delivered to in excess of two thousand people conveying over four thousand six hundred possessions.

So what antique treasure will pop up next in New Brunswick?

We'll see at the Saintt John - Brunswick Square roadshow.

Senior Artiques roadshow appraiser, art historian, writer and TV personality, the Englishman David Freeman, has 39 years of international experience and expertise to share with Canadians. Highly qualified and respected internationally, he runs one of the worlds largest independent art authentication agencies and holds down the title of being North America's busiest art appraiser.

Labelled by the media as the Treasure Finder General, his fantastic discoveries and roadshow finds across Canada now roll into the millions.

A real life da Vinci code art detective, David is consultant to many television shows including the hugely successful crime series CSI - the BBC's Hustle and Flog It and has been the subject himself of a Biography Channel programme. He writes and hosts Secret Britain and is to be both the subject of a television documentary series following his art detective work internationally and a new antiques TV entertainment series this fall.

David is the author of a brand new book detailing the millions of dollars of fantastic treasures and stories found during the decade of Canadian roadshow treasure trail events across the Dominion and he has just completed his first historical novel called the Oakum Gate.

AN IMPORTANT ROADSHOW DISCLAIMER

This will confirm that the British Artiques roadshow and its expert appraisers and antiques valuers have nothing what so ever to do with the commercial enterprise known as the Treasure Hunters Roadshow. The British Artiques roadshow are in Saint John to bring you invaluable expertise, vast subjective experience & education and share their formidable expertise with you. We are not here to buy your antiques and collectibles and family heirlooms. No true professional can wear two caps and fairly appraise your family heirlooms and antiques and then want to buy them.

The two do not and should not mix!

With us, rest assured they don't
